Woven Shirt Manufacturing: Poplin, Oxford and Twill Bases

We manufacture woven shirts in Bangladesh to buyer specification: poplin, oxford, chambray and twill, collar and cuff interlining, yarn counts and pattern matching. Fabrics, collar and cuff constructions, matching rules and the sampling sequence are stated below.

Woven shirts carry more construction detail than any other menswear category at comparable price points, and the details that separate a good shirt from a poor one are largely invisible until the garment is worn.

Which shirting fabrics are woven and stocked?

Yarn count runs from coarse 20s for casual shirting to fine 100s and above for formal, and the count determines handfeel more than the weave does.

Which shirting fabrics are woven and stocked
FabricCharacterTypical use
PoplinSmooth, crisp, plain weaveFormal, business
OxfordTextured basketweaveCasual, button-down
ChambraySoft, denim-look plain weaveCasual, workwear-inspired
TwillDiagonal, soft drape, resists creasingBusiness casual

Yarn count is quoted as a single or two-ply figure. A 2/80s poplin uses two 80-count yarns twisted together and produces a noticeably finer, stronger cloth than a single 40s at similar weight. Where a buyer is comparing quotes, count and ply is where the price difference sits.

What collar and cuff constructions are offered?

Fused and non-fused collars, with interlining specified by weight and stiffness. Collar styles include spread, semi-spread, button-down and cutaway; cuffs include single-button, two-button and double. Require a wash test on the pre-production sample.

Interlining is the component that determines how a collar looks after twenty washes, and it is the component buyers leave unspecified most. Fused interlining is bonded to the collar fabric under heat and pressure; a poor fusing process produces bubbling after laundering, which is the most common quality complaint in shirting. Specify interlining weight and require a wash test on the pre-production sample. The full list of tech pack requirements shows where interlining and fusing sit in a specification.

How is pattern matching handled on checks and stripes?

Pattern matching is specified per garment area — front placket, pockets, yoke, sleeve placket — and each matched area increases fabric consumption and cutting time. State which areas must match before quotation, because it materially affects price.

Matching is a costing input, not a quality standard. A checked shirt with matched pockets, placket and yoke consumes measurably more fabric than the same shirt cut without matching, and a supplier who quotes without knowing the requirement has quoted the cheaper version.

Three areas cover most buyers' expectations:

  • Placket to body — the most visible and the most commonly required.
  • Pocket to body — visible and expected on checked shirts at retail.
  • Sleeve placket and yoke — specified on premium programmes.

What sampling stages precede a bulk shirt order?

Proto sample to confirm styling, fit sample to confirm measurements, and pre-production sample in bulk fabric and trims to confirm everything together. Shirts commonly need one more fit round than knitwear because there are more fixed measurement points.

The pre-production sample must be made in the actual bulk fabric, not in a substitute. Shirting behaves differently across weaves, and a fit approved in poplin does not transfer reliably to oxford. What each sampling stage proves sets out the sequence and the timing.

How do I order woven shirt manufacturing?

Send a reference shirt or specify fabric, yarn count, weave, collar and cuff style, interlining and matching requirements. We quote against that and identify anything missing before the price is firm.

For shirts without a production calendar, check current shirt stock, where lots state fabric, construction and size ratio.
