Wholesale Leather Goods from Bangladesh: Grade, Material

Leather goods are accessories made wholly or partly from leather: belts, wallets, card holders and small items carried with menswear. This page explains what a lot specifies, how material grades differ, and what a buyer checks before shipping from Dhaka.

Which leather goods lots are currently available?

No leather goods lots are listed right now. Lots appear here as they are counted in, so ask and we will check the warehouse and our supplier network.

Availability is confirmed at enquiry rather than reserved by the listing. A lot visible in the morning is committed to the first buyer who confirms, so a buyer planning freight asks us to confirm the quantity first. The same lots sit within the wider ready stock held in Dhaka, which covers garments as well as accessories.

For single-category buying, the dedicated pages for belts and wallets carry the product-specific detail.

What leather grades and materials do lots contain?

Five material classes appear in the trade: full-grain, top-grain, genuine (split) leather, bonded leather and polyurethane (PU) synthetic. The first three are hide; bonded leather is shredded fibre on a backing; PU is plastic. We name the class per lot.

What leather grades and materials do lots contain
MaterialWhat it isSurface
Full-grainComplete hide surface, no sandingNatural grain, marks retained
Top-grainUpper layer sanded to remove blemishesUniform, thinner than full-grain
Genuine (split)Lower hide layers after the top is separatedEmbossed or coated finish
BondedLeather fibre bound with polyurethane or latexPrinted grain pattern
PU syntheticPolyurethane coating on a fabric baseMoulded grain pattern

The phrase "genuine leather" describes a hide-derived layer, not a quality tier, and a listing that states only that phrase leaves the grade unknown. We state the grade where the lot holder supplies it and state "grade unconfirmed" where the holder does not.

Is leather produced in Bangladesh?

Yes. Bangladesh runs a domestic tanning industry, concentrated for decades in Hazaribagh in Dhaka and relocated to the Savar tannery estate on the capital's outskirts. Leather and leather products are an established export sector alongside garments.

The tanning stage determines hide quality and finish; the goods stage determines stitching, edge finishing and hardware. A lot's source factory can be strong at one and average at the other, which is why a physical inspection tells a buyer more than a catalogue photograph.

Leather goods fall outside our own garment production floor. They reach the warehouse and our sourcing service through the supplier network we have vetted, and we say so on the lot rather than presenting an intermediary lot as our own manufacture.

How do stock lots differ from leather goods made to order?

A stock lot is finished product available now in a fixed quantity, colour and style. A made-to-order programme specifies material, hardware and branding for a new run. Stock ships sooner; production allows the exact specification.

Stock lots suit buyers who need accessories to complete a delivery already planned around garments, or who test a market before committing to a run. Where a buyer needs a custom logo, specific hardware or a particular hide, the accessories range at /accessories/ and the sourcing route apply instead. Quantities available as surplus or cancelled stock are listed under factory lot quantities.

How is leather goods material checked on arrival?

Four checks cover most disputes: material label against the lot sheet, cut-edge structure, stitch and edge finish, and hardware plating. Each takes under a minute per sample piece and needs no equipment.

  • Material label read against the stated grade, since the label and the lot sheet carry the same claim.
  • Cut edge examined where one exists: hide shows a fibrous, layered edge, while PU shows a fabric base under a plastic film.
  • Stitching counted for consistency, with no skipped stitches at stress points such as belt loops and card slots.
  • Hardware inspected for plating wear, burrs and loose rivets.

Buyers who want verification before payment can inspect in person at our showroom or appoint a third-party inspector. The method is described in the inspection guide.

How are leather goods classified and shipped?

Leather articles fall under Harmonized System chapter 42: wallets and card holders under heading 4202, belts and clothing accessories of leather under heading 4203. Goods leave Bangladesh through the port of Chattogram.

Heading and duty vary by material, because PU articles classify differently from leather ones. The HS codes guide explains how a buyer confirms the correct heading with the destination customs authority before ordering.

Typical export packing uses polybags per piece inside master cartons. Moisture control matters for leather on long sea transit, so buyers with a destination humidity concern state it before packing begins and we arrange the carton specification accordingly.
